Halonen is interested in social structures and human behaviour and often collaborates with people to engage with their working or leisure experiences, highlighting the choreography of everyday practices, and marginal positions, as potential sites for resistance to wider social structures. Recording and staging resistance of a cultural alienation usually caused by geographical displacements of a voluntary, involuntary kind and talking through someone else are in a core Halonen’s practice.

She has shown her work in various international exhibitions such as Gallery Factory, Seoul, Korea, Transmediale, 2012, Berlin, Centre Pompidou, Paris, Festival De Nouveau Cinema, Montreal, Brussels Short film Festival, Musrara Mix, Jerusalem, Israel, Collective Gallery, Edinburgh, Berwick Gymnasium Gallery, UK, Loop Video Art Fair, Barcelona, Grimmuseum, Berlin, Gstaad Film festival, Switzerland, Incheon International Biennale, Korea and ARTE TV Channel (France/Germany).
